niddy noddy yarn counter

Have you ever seen one of these? I found it in a place called the Trading Post in Amherst. It’s this great place right across the street from my office. I go there at lunch time and browse. They have the most wonderful selection of dusty vintage everything!

It’s a perfect niddy noddy and a full wrap around is two yards. While I was in the shop, another browser told me that it was a yarn counter. Turns out she is a long time spinner!

Thanks for the info Jenny!

Taking my spun yarn off the spool of my drop spindle and wrapping it around my new old niddy noddy thing. In front of the fire. I never thought I could love winter so much!

Yarn is wool with some silk spun in. I will try to dye it tomorrow!

I like your texture on that yarn. That antique is beautiful and still useful. Love finds like that.

  2. a skein winder – nice find

    Nice find.

  4. It is beautiful – and an eye-catching piece in your house! I want one! :). It’s a skein winder or reel, though, not a niddy noddy (which are hand held). (See my brief discussion of them at http://sweatyknitter.com/2012/12/09/niddy-noddy-an-old-english-tune-and-christ/).

Love to hear from you!
