tiedye tuesday

I’ve been sewing. and cutting. I’ve been cutting many of my fabrics up to make stuff. This has been difficult. The cutting into a piece for the first time. Once I’m into it though it’s like I just know what to do. Like the cloth just lets me know somehow and I just keep going and it’s all smooth. Then I have to stop and sometimes it’s very hard to get going again. I start to worry that I will never get into that place again. Gotta eat, gotta cleanup, gotta go to work.

So now I’m seeing tiedye everywhere I go. This morning at the bagel store a young man was wearing a really nice tiedye T. It looked just like the sky. guys are wearing tiedye all over Brooklyn. Peter got into the ones I made and started wearing them. I was completely shocked. I never thought he would want to wear tiedye. I’m  delighted-

Last night I got into machine quilting a small piece that I have been kind of obsessing over. I want to put it together with another piece that came out with some really interesting markings.I think this is my favorite thing about dyeing. These little pictures that come out here and there. It is such a nice surprise to unwrap the cloth after it’s been in the dyepot and something has been created on it’s own. It’s like I’m arranging this opportunity and the cloth and the dye work together and something beautiful and wonderful comes out and I’m just there to see it. This is the part I’m completely obsessed with.At the last minute before I left for work this morning, I decided to stitch through 3 pieces of silk folded 4 times. When I got to work, I quickly pulled the threads, the stitches were machine basted and for the most part, I was able to gather the silk and tye it. A couple of the threads broke and I’ll probably end up with holes from the needle, but I am anxious to see what will happen in the dye pot today. I put a binder clamp on at the end just for good measure.
