Cherries baby!

Did you ever have a day that got away from you? But in a good way, a creative way? Well that is the kind of day I am having and I hope you will get a good chuckle when I tell you about my cherry adventure.

My neighbor Donna has a cherry tree and all I can think about is when can i get my hands on all those little teeny cherries and make some dye out of them.

I scooped up about a pint and a half and cooked them up. some were dried up already, some were light red and some were dark, plump, and juicy. I don’t know if they are edible and I wasn’t about to find out so I just made a dyepot out of them. I mashed them up with the potato masher and I can tell you that the color was very promising even after 10 minutes. After about 30 minutes I had such a beautiful dark cherry red!

I strained the dye and then again through the coffee maker.  Of course I couldn’t wait to dye so I grabbed a small piece of cotton sateen and a linen pojagi piece that I had made a while back that was a bit too light in color for my taste. I folded and pinned both pieces threw them in the pot and turned up the heat. I went downstairs to get the alum and Irene was still here so I chatted for a while with her. By the time I got upstairs, the kitchen was full of smoke and my dyepot was burnt along with the two pieces of cloth. I filled the pot with water again because I had never added the alum. the cloth was a lovely light cherry. I cooked it again, while airing out the house and letting the dog out.  I rinsed and here is what I got.

I love them!
