I started a new piece tonight. It went together really fast. I didn’t measure anything, I just cut and sewed. I think I like the way it came out. I used stuff from my stash that I’ve been dyeing over the life of this blog. I really went into the zone tonight but I am feeling a little anxious about it-the work I mean.Or actually taking the time to do the work. What if I spend a lot of time and it just doesn’t go anywhere. Part of me doesn’t think that’s possible and a lot of me does. When I go into the zone, I don’t think about it or care.
It’s nice in the zone
I finished quilting the piece from yesterday. I bound it and washed it. I’m not sure if I like it. It’s crooked and bumpy and not very -well it’s a start.
It kind of looks like a map to me. I wish it was a map then maybe I would know where I am going. Maybe it is a map. what then?
I think these pieces are related to these pojagi style pieces I made a few weeks ago. I first saw one of these on The Silly BooDilly site. Victoria has an excellent tutorial there on how to sew the seams. I loved making these -Thanks so much Victoria for showing us all how.
I finished one and brought it with me when I visited Laura in Portland last week. It rains there a lot and she has these big windows in her dorm room. We hung it in the window there and the yellow silk kind of makes a sort of sunshine even when the sun is not shining.
Here they are still in Brooklyn. Don’t you love the way the light comes through and the seams make it all look like leaded glass.
Pojagi is sometimes called Bojagi. It is an ancient Korean textile art. Small scraps of fabric leftover from whatever are sewn together in a way that there are no raw edges on either side. I’ve read the finished cloths are sometimes used for carrying or wrapping food or gifts. They can be plain white or all one color. I like the way my hand dyes look. Maybe one day I will make a plain white or beige one. probably not.
