I just got back from Portland where I dropped off my youngest for college. It’s her second year. I came back pretty down. To cheer myself up I began to look through my stash. It always does the trick! I just want to dye again!
I found this large piece of muslin from a few weeks ago. I cut it into three pieces. 3 blues.
Muslin has a bad reputation in the dyepot or so it seems. I must admit I’ve had some pretty disappointing results with it myself. But I’ve also had some pieces of muslin that come out of the dyepot all smoky and soft and extraordinarily gorgeous. Okay just 1 or 2.
I scrunched up the three pieces after getting them a bit wet and I put them into 3 separate coffee cups. I mixed up three separate cups of dye- golden oak, Indigo and deep purple -all procion from pro-chem. I used a lot of dye in a bit of water-About 2 Tablespoons dye to 3 Tablespoons water. I want these pieces to be really saturated.
I mixed about 2 Tablespoons of soda ash into 12 ounces of water. I hope it is enough. I poured:
Soda solution, dye, more soda solution. Here is what they look like now. 3 cups.
Then I started to remember the 3 of cups in the tarot. I knew there had to be some significance. Yes of course the 3 of Cups is about friendship, celebration, success, and community and the purification and protection of Laurel.
Here are some pictures of Laura and her friends. I miss her like crazy but I know she is in good hands. I’ll let you know how the three cups come out.
