I made five nuno felted scarves today! I have been working all day and I took some photos and I made a few videos about it too. I have been nuno felting silk scarves for about two years now, but have only finished three pieces before today. I think I made a lot of progress today with the process.
Here is a midnight blue silk chiffon scarf that I dyed yesterday. I’ve covered it with lots of fiber from my stash. some merino wool and some mohair. I just love the mohair even though it is a bit fuzzy and hard to work with.

I put down some bubble wrap under the scarf and some plastic. This works for me. Then fiber, the scarf, and more fiber on top. then I liberally sprinkle hot soapy water on the top of the fiber and work it through to the bottom fiber. What I’m trying to do is get the fibers from the top to go through the silk chiffon and meet the fiber on the bottom and vice versa. That’s why I’m using the rolling pin. This is nuno felting. the end result is a luxurious, warm and soft piece. Hopefully it looks amazing too. Here are some pictures of the process. -And here is a link to the first video. I put the video up on youtube along with the two shibori videos. My video production is wanting but my only purpose is to show you the process so you will try this yourself at home or in your studio if you haven’t already. I hope you love nuno felting as much as I do!

here is the felt all wetted and ready to roll with the rolling pin
I will have more photos of the finished scarves tomorrow when the sun is shining. See you then! xo, Marjie
